The Westminster girls volleyball team brought home the championship trophy from the St. Francis Borgia Tournament last weekend after a day of resilient play and thrilling matches.
In pool play, the Wildcats opened strong with a pair of sweeps, defeating the Washington Blue Jays 2-0 and the Union Wildcats 2-0. They then battled Parkway West to a 1-1 split, setting the tone for what would become a championship rematch.
Westminster advanced to the semifinals, where they faced host St. Francis Borgia. In two tightly contested sets, the Wildcats showed poise under pressure, winning 25-23 and 26-24 to secure their spot in the title match.
The championship against Parkway West proved to be a true test. After taking the first set 25-23, Westminster narrowly dropped the second 24-26. In the decisive third set, the Wildcats dug deep, utilizing strong serving and clutch defensive plays to secure a 25-22 victory and clinch the championship.
With the tournament win, Westminster continues to build momentum early in the season and show that they can rise to the occasion against top competition.
