Gatorade Player of the Year

Each year the Gatorade Player of the Year Award is given to one girl and one boy in each state in the sports of baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, and track & field.

Baseball - 2009

Jacob was a standout pitcher for Westminsters baseball team for four years. In his career he held a record of 23-5 with a 1.24 ERA racking up a total of 187 strikeouts. Know for his speed off the mound, Jacob started his Wildcat career with a 91 mph fastball that eventually became a 98 mph fastball by his senior year. He was also and accomplished batter. During his senior year he carried a .500 batting average while compiling 47 hits, 35 RBIs, 3 triples, and 3 home runs.

After Westminster, Jacob was signed on to join the North Carolina Tar Heels baseball program. However, his plans quickly changed when he was drafted 9th overall by the Detroit Tigers in the 2009 MLB Draft. He had a nine year MLB career, and played his final year of professional baseball in the KBO.

Track & Field - 2011

While at Westminster Daniel was a member of the Cross Country and the Track and Field teams. As a member of the Cross country team Daniel was a State Champion his senior year with a time of 15:52.13 and helped lead the team to a third place finish. As a member of the Track and Field team he was a two time State Champion, both in his senior year. He won the 1600m with a time of 4:08.43 and the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:55.05.

After Westminster Daniel went to Columbia University were he had a successful four years on the Track and Cross Country teams. He then ran one year at Iowa State where he was a graduate transfer.

Baseball - 2016

During Jake's senior season at Westminster he hit .414 with 11 home runs (ties school record), 43 RBIs. He was a 2016 Louisville Slugger High School All-America, a Class 4 First Team All-State selection, and the 2016 St. Louis Post Dispatch State Player of the Year. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Perfect Game WWBA World Championship in 2015. As a member of Wildcat baseball he won the Class 4 State Championship back to back years (2013, 2014).

After Westminster Jake signed on to join the Indiana Hoosiers. After one season he came back home to play for Missouri, were he finished his college career.

Kirsten Davis
Soccer - 2017

Kirsten Davis was 4-year player at Westminster accumulating 37 goals and 7 assists in her final year as a Wildcat. She was honored with three All-State, All-Conference and All-District awards over her last three years, also earning First Team accolades in all three in 2016. Kirsten received All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and TopDrawerSoccer.com

After Westminster Kirsten signed on to join the Texas Tech Red Raiders, where she played her entire college career. After a stellar college career she was acquired by Racing Louisville FC in the 2021 NWSL Draft, where she still plays.

Wendy's High School Heisman

The Wendy's High School Heisman is given to two seniors (one boy, one girl) nationally each year. It is awarded for academic and athletic excellence, as well as being a role model in ones community.

Zach Hughes
2015

Zach was a member of the Football, Basketball, and Track and Field teams during his time at Westminster. As a member of the football team he was a 3-time District Champion and was a part of the 2015 Final Four team. His senior year he racked up 737 yards and 5 TDs. As a member of the Basketball team he was a District Champion and State Quarterfinalist in 2014. As a member of the Track and Field team he earned all-conference honors twice and was a part of two record breaking relay teams; School record 4x100 (45.65), Conference record 4x800 (8:26.20).

After high school Zach attended Forman University and was a member of the football team.
