Westminster Athletics is excited to announce Tony Johnson as the new Program Head of Girls Basketball. With eight years of coaching experience and a strong connection to the Wildcats program, Coach Johnson is prepared to lead the team into a new chapter built on faith, growth, and excellence.
Coach Johnson served as the Wildcats' JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant last season, where he made an immediate impact through his leadership and commitment to player development. His familiarity with the program and passion for mentoring student-athletes make him a natural fit for this role.
A lifelong student of the game, Coach Johnson began playing basketball at Dolan Middle School before continuing at Flint Northern High School, where he competed alongside Flint and Michigan State legend Mateen Cleaves. His journey in basketball has shaped not only his knowledge of the sport but also his desire to invest in the next generation.
Coach Johnson sees coaching as more than just teaching the game—it is a calling. He is passionate about using basketball as a platform to mentor young athletes, helping them grow both on and off the court. He believes his role in shaping student-athletes is part of God's purpose for his life.
His coaching philosophy is rooted in three core principles: commitment, selflessness, and unity. He emphasizes honesty and accountability while striving to build meaningful relationships with his players. Coach Johnson encourages his teams to embrace the process, understanding that daily growth leads to lasting success.
On the court, his teams are defined by strong fundamentals, unselfish play, and a defensive mindset. With an emphasis on proper spacing, constant movement, and team-first basketball, he aims to develop disciplined and competitive athletes.
Above all, Coach Johnson leads with faith, living by the motto: "Put God first, and everything else second."
Westminster looks forward to the leadership, vision, and Christ-centered approach Coach Johnson will bring to the girls basketball program.
We'd also like to take the opportunity to thank Coach Nic Zenker for his time as the Head of the Girls Basketball program.
Coach Zenker is stepping away from coaching after 28 years in Missouri high school basketball. During his time as a head coach he has accumulated 343 wins and 7 district championships.
In his first year as Head Coach at Westminster, he lead the team to the program's first District Championship win since 2021. This past season, the team finish with a record over .500 and claimed the #2 seed in their District Tournament.
We are thankful that Coach Zenker will continue his role as a full-time faculty member at Westminster.
Thank you Coach Zenker!
