The Westminster girls basketball team wrapped up its 2025–26 season after a competitive run that saw the Wildcats finish the regular season with an 11–9 record. Their strong play throughout the winter earned them the #2 seed in the Class 4 District 6 Tournament, along with a first-round bye.
The district tournament, hosted at Westminster from March 2–6, began for the Wildcats in the semifinal round with a matchup against the #2 seed Visitation Vivettes. The game proved to be a hard-fought contest from the opening tip.
Visitation jumped out to multiple double-digit leads during the second and third quarters, but the Wildcats refused to back down. Westminster responded with a strong offensive run and key defensive stops to chip away at the deficit. Their persistence paid off late in the fourth quarter when the Wildcats surged ahead to take the lead.
Despite the momentum shift, Visitation answered with a late scoring push of their own. The Vivettes regained the lead in the closing moments and held on until the final buzzer, ending Westminster's season in a tightly contested semifinal matchup.
The Wildcats' effort throughout the season was a testament to the leadership of coaches Zenker, Melaragno, and Johnson, who guided the team through a competitive schedule and postseason appearance.
The program also bids farewell to a dedicated senior class that played a key role in the team's success. Meredith De Groot, Addi Drumm, Essence Robertson, and team manager Reese Ricci each made meaningful contributions to the program during their time at Westminster.
Congratulations to the Wildcats on a strong season and thank you to the seniors for their leadership and commitment to the program.
