The Westminster Boys Cross Country team delivered a dominant performance at the Class 3 District 3 Championship on Saturday, November 1 at Linn High School, capturing the district title and punching their ticket to the state meet.
The Wildcats entered the race ranked #2 in Missouri behind Centralia but flipped the script when it mattered most, finishing with a team score of 46, edging out Centralia (55) to claim the championship.
Junior Cruz Thomas led the charge with a 2nd-place finish (16:42.20), while seniors Will Koenig and Josiah Bailey delivered clutch performances, placing 4th (17:16.20) and 10th (17:33.60) respectively. Junior Theo DeBoer followed close behind in 12th (17:46.60), and sophomore Adam Koenig rounded out the team scoring in 18th (17:59.10). Juniors Lucas Tennant (21st, 18:05.90) and Charlie Dey (35th, 18:56.60) added depth to a balanced team effort that secured Westminster's spot atop the podium.
On the girls' side, the Wildcats competed in the Class 5 District 1 meet in Cape Girardeau, where junior Bella Holohan earned a trip to the state championships with a 29th-place finish (20:06.14) against a strong field of competitors.
Both the boys team and Holohan will compete at the MSHSAA State Championships on Friday, November 7, at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri. The boys will run in the Class 3 race at 9:00 a.m., and Holohan will compete in the Class 5 girls race at 1:45 p.m.
