The Westminster Wildcats Cross Country program celebrated its seven seniors on Thursday, October 23, following an impressive performance at the Metro League Championship meet hosted at Principia. It was a memorable day for both the athletes and the program — a fitting way to honor a dedicated senior class.
The boys varsity team claimed the Metro League Championship, capturing first place behind a dominant team performance. The girls varsity team also turned in a strong showing, finishing second overall against a competitive field.
For the boys, junior Cruz Thomas led the way with a 2nd-place finish (16:40.11), followed closely by seniors Will Koenig (5th, 17:26.42) and Josiah Bailey (6th, 17:28.68). Junior Theo DeBoer also finished in the top ten, placing 8th with a time of 17:41.07.
On the girls' side, junior Bella Holohan continued her outstanding season by taking 1st place overall (19:45.70). Her younger sister, freshman Amelia Holohan, added a top-10 finish of her own, coming in 8th (21:20.61) to help secure the team's runner-up finish.
After the meet, the Wildcats recognized their senior runners for their leadership and contributions to the program: Will Koenig, Jacob Pederson, Josiah Bailey, Joah Noack, Tate Edgar, Avunker Pieris, and Zxphina Strong.
Next up, the Wildcats turn their focus to the postseason. The boys team will compete in the Class 3 District 3 Meet at Linn High School on November 1 at 9:00 AM, while the girls team will head to Cape Girardeau for the Class 5 District 1 Meet at the Osage Center, beginning at 12:00 PM.
