The Westminster Boys Cross Country team capped off an incredible postseason run with a 2nd-place finish at the Class 3 State Championship on Friday, November 7, at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri.
The top four teams and top 30 individuals from each district advanced to the state meet, with each team's seven runners competing and the top five finishers counting toward the final team score.
In one of the tightest team races of the day, Westminster finished with 95 points, just one point behind champion Centralia (94) and narrowly ahead of Herculaneum (99) and Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience (144).
Leading the Wildcats was junior Cruz Thomas, who earned medalist honors with a 6th-place finish (16:04.50)—a new personal record and the third-fastest time in school history, just 0.4 seconds behind former standout David Everett. Junior Theo DeBoer also medaled, finishing 26th (16:53.70), followed closely by senior Will Koenig (31st, 16:57.90) and senior Josiah Bailey (32nd, 17:02.70). Junior Lucas Tennant rounded out Westminster's scoring five, finishing 50th (17:30.70).
Also contributing to the Wildcats' outstanding performance were sophomore Adam Koenig, who ran a personal-best 17:37.90, and sophomore Charlie Dey (18:10.80, 100th).
In the Class 5 Girls State Championship, junior Bella Holohan represented Westminster, finishing 66th overall with a time of 20:06.40, capping an impressive junior season.
The state runner-up finish marks another milestone for Westminster's growing cross country tradition—a testament to the program's depth, leadership, and competitive spirit.
