Westminster track and field athletes turned in strong performances at the Class 5 District 2 Meet held on May 17 at Parkway South High School, earning several top-four finishes and advancing to the State Sectional Meet at Hillsboro High School on May 24.
Senior distance standout Anna Drochelman led the way for the Wildcats with podium finishes in two of her events. She placed 3rd in the 1600m with a time of 5:15.21 and followed it up with a 2nd place finish in the 3200m, clocking in at 11:32.97. Her performances continue a fantastic senior season and secure her spot in the next round of postseason competition.
On the boys side, junior Gabe Lee sprinted to a 2nd place finish in the 100m dash, crossing the line in 11.03 seconds. His speed and consistency have made him one of the area's top sprinters and a strong contender for a state berth.
Freshman Mackenzie Ikeda made an immediate impact in her first postseason appearance, placing 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 4.97 meters. Her performance earned her a trip to sectionals and signals a bright future ahead in the Westminster program.
All three athletes will compete at sectionals on May 24 at Hillsboro High School, where the top four finishers in each event will qualify for the MSHSAA State Championships.
