Westminster Christian Academy turned in a strong all-around performance at the 5th Annual Hazelwood Invitational, with several athletes finishing on the podium and many more setting strong marks early in the season.
On the girls' side, senior Anna Drochelman led the charge, winning both the 1600-meter run (5:32.43) and the 3200-meter run (12:01.60) in dominant fashion. Junior Sophia Payne added a podium finish with a 3rd-place time of 2:45.47 in the 800-meter run, while freshman Mackenzie Ikeda posted a 6th-place finish in the 400 (1:06.32) and 7th in the long jump (4.67m).
The relay teams also showed well, with the girls taking 3rd in the 4x400 (4:35.51), 4th in the 4x800 (11:51.73), and 5th in the 4x200 (1:56.71).
In the sprints, freshman Kayla Hines led the Wildcats in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.24, while freshman Ava Walker placed 17th in the 200 with a time of 31.03.
On the boys' side, sophomore Theo DeBoer and junior Will Koenig delivered a 1-2 punch in the 3200, finishing in 1st (10:51.29) and 2nd (11:09.45), respectively. Freshman Adam Koenig rounded out the event in 4th (12:00.02).
The distance dominance continued with sophomore Lucas Tennant and junior Josiah Bailey finishing 2nd (5:00.16) and 3rd (5:03.17) in the 1600, while sophomore Cruz Thomas placed 3rd in the 800 (2:12.50).
Junior Demetri Crooks brought home a first-place medal in the triple jump with an impressive leap of 12.44 meters.
In the sprints, junior Gabriel Lee sprinted to a 4th-place finish in the 100 (11.48). The boys' 4x800 relay team captured 2nd place with a time of 8:51.43, while the 4x400 team took 7th (3:47.13).
