The Westminster boys tennis team put together an impressive postseason run in the Class 2 District 3 Team Tournament, finishing as district runner-up after a week of strong performances and gritty play.
The Wildcats opened their tournament on home court with a dominant 5-0 quarterfinal win over Parkway North, quickly advancing to the semifinals. In the next round, Westminster pulled off a major upset over #2 seed Priory, defeating the Ravens 5-1 on the road and earning a spot in the district championship for the second straight season. The Cats suffered a home defeat to Priory just a week earlier.
The title match, a rematch of last year's final, pitted Westminster against perennial power Parkway West. The match began on Wednesday, May 7, but was delayed due to weather with the Wildcats trailing 0-2. When play resumed on May 8 at Parkway West, the Longhorns secured a 5-1 victory, giving Westminster a strong district runner-up finish to close out the team season.
The season isn't over for everyone, though — junior Noah Suthar and senior Alan Walker will represent Westminster at the Class 2 Individual State Tournament in doubles on May 15–16 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
