The Westminster girls tennis team continued its impressive postseason run by capturing the Class 2 District 2 Championship, defeating Parkway West in a tightly contested match to claim the district crown.
The Wildcats opened tournament play in dominant fashion, sweeping both Mehlville (5–0) in the quarterfinals and Lutheran South (5–0) in the semifinals to advance to the championship.
In the finals against the Parkway West Longhorns, Westminster battled through a back-and-forth match that came down to the wire. The Wildcats took an early lead by winning two of the three doubles matches, with victories from the senior duo Edde Sue Doehring and Hadley Hackmann, as well as junior Jordy Obertop and senior Aunika Groat.
The singles round proved to be just as competitive. Sophomore Ava Walker, Doehring, and Groat each earned crucial wins — with Groat clinching the deciding match to seal the championship for Westminster.
With the 5–4 victory, the Wildcats are now Class 2 District 2 Champions and advance to the state sectionals. Next up, they'll face a major test at home against Ladue, last year's state runner-up, on Monday, October 20 at 2 pm.
Congratulations to the Wildcats on an incredible district run and a hard-fought championship victory!
