Wildcat Hockey Opens Preseason with Strong Tournament Performance

The Westminster Hockey Club opened its preseason with an impressive showing in a three-game round-robin tournament last week.

The Wildcats started strong with a 3-0 shutout victory over Parkway West, highlighted by junior goalie David Creel's 45 saves and goals from sophomore Archer Walker and freshman Sam Skiljan.

In Game 2, the Wildcats rolled past conference rival Priory in an 8-4 win. Walker led the offense with a hat trick and two assists. Junior Nathan Charnes scored twice, and senior goalie Aidan Albers stopped 41 of 45 shots for a .900 save percentage.

The finale against Eureka ended in a 6-6 tie, with junior Matthew Tonkikh scoring a hat trick in his Westminster debut. Walker added two more goals to finish the tournament with six, and Forchee notched another goal and assist. Junior goalie Spencer Taylor made his varsity debut, recording 40 saves.

The Wildcats will look to carry their momentum into the regular season, which begins October 29.
