Westminster Hockey faced the #1 seeded Liberty Wentzville in the Founders Cup Championship game on Thursday, February 22 following a 6-2 victory in game two of the semifinals against Northwest.
The Wildcats secured their spot in the Founders Cup Championship thanks to an undefeated playoff streak, boasting four wins with an average margin of victory of over three goals per game.
In the championship showdown on Thursday night, Liberty took the initiative, scoring the opening goal of the match in the first period. An early strike in the second period extended Liberty's lead to two. However, just over a minute later, Senior John Schweppe netted the Wildcats' sole goal of the evening, reducing the deficit to one.
Despite their efforts, the Wildcats were unable to overcome Liberty's lead, concluding their remarkable playoff journey as the Founders Cup Runner-ups one year after bringing home the same trophy.
Congratulations to Wildcat Ice Hockey on another great finish to their season!
