Coach Spotlight: Kenneth McTyer

This year, the Westminster family warmly welcomed Coach Kenneth McTyer as the Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach. With the help of his guidance, the team has achieved a 13-8 record thus far, with wins in 5 of the last 7 games.

Coach McTyer brings with him over a decade of coaching experience, including 12 years in AAU basketball. Eight years ago, he founded Genesis Basketball Academy in the St. Louis area. The academy, rooted in faith, operates under the motto "Live to Ball. Ball for Christ," providing a Christian basketball experience that is both competitive and family-oriented. Off the court, Kenneth serves as an Operations Director at Cigna, overseeing a division that focuses on sleep therapy and pharmacy.

When asked what he enjoys most about coaching, Coach McTyer shared, "What I enjoy most about coaching is that it is also a ministry. God grants coaches numerous opportunities to minister and share the gospel with our players. This allows us, as coaches, to profoundly impact the lives of those we mentor." Beyond the ministry aspect, he cherishes the relationships forged through basketball and the sense of belonging within a basketball family.

Even in his free time, Coach McTyer's passion for basketball remains evident. He spends considerable time in the gym, analyzing game film, or researching new concepts on how to pick apart a 2-3 zone! Additionally, he is an avid reader with a keen interest in leadership and coaching literature.

We feel fortunate to have Coach McTyer as a part of our Wildcat community and are excited to support his continued growth in his coaching career.
