The Westminster boys basketball team turned in a strong showing at the 2025 Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament, hosted by Maryville University, competing against a talented field while supporting a meaningful cause. Entering the tournament with a 4–2 record, the Wildcats earned the No. 6 seed and battled their way to a fifth-place finish.

Westminster opened tournament play with a dominant first-round victory over No. 11 seed Rockwood Summit. The Wildcats controlled the game from start to finish, cruising to a 74–42 win. Junior Will Powers led all scorers with 29 points, while Powers and senior Tobi Akinyede each pulled down four rebounds. Junior Darrell Crump paced the offense with three assists.

In the quarterfinals, the Wildcats faced a tough challenge against No. 3 seed Lindbergh. Despite a hard-fought effort, Westminster fell 47–43. Powers finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while Akinyede added four assists. The loss pushed the Wildcats to the backside of the bracket where a 5th place finish would be the best possible outcome.

Bouncing back in the consolation bracket, Westminster matched up with No. 7 seed Lafayette and secured a narrow 53–50 victory to advance to the fifth-place game. Powers once again led the way with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Akinyede, Powers, and sophomore John Gleghorn each recorded three assists.

The Wildcats closed the tournament on a high note in the fifth-place game, defeating Ft. Zumwalt South 51–38. Powers led the scoring with 18 points and added eight rebounds, while sophomore Brandon Gibson and senior Gage Grewe shared the team lead with four assists apiece.

With a fifth-place finish in a competitive tournament field, the Wildcats continue to build momentum as the season progresses.
