MICDS Tip-Off Tournament Champions

This week our boys basketball team competed in the MICDS tip-off tournament. The event featured two three team pools with the winner of each pool advancing to the championship game on Friday.

In their first pool play game, the Wildcats handily defeated Miller Career Academy. The scoring charge was led by three double-digit scorers in sophomore Will Powers (17pts),  junior Tobi Akinyede (15pts), and senior JD Robertson (13pts).

The second matchup of the week slated Westminster against University City. The Cats got off to a slow start offensively in game two, trailing 11-24 at the half. The second half was a different story with the backcourt duo of Powers and Robertson coming alive to push the Wildcats to a 49-41 victory and a spot in Friday night's Championship Game.

The finals saw Westminster matched-up against the  tournament host and Metro League foe MICDS. The first three quarters of the championship game were a back and forth battle with the Wildcats carrying a narrow six point lead into the final quarter.  Ultimately,  the Wildcats efficiency from the free throw and three point lines would extend their lead as they closed out the tournament out with a 17 point victory.

Congratulations to Boys Basketball on the tournament win, and an impressive 4-0 start to their season!
