After a season filled with challenging dual and tri meets, the boys swim team made a remarkable appearance at the Class 1 State Meet. The team impressively qualified in five events: three relays and two individual events.
The preliminary round, held on Thursday, November 9, showcased the Wildcats' skill and determination. There are 32 qualifiers (4 heats) in each event with top 16 times in each event on day one qualifying to swim on day two. The top eight times from day one are deemed medalists and compete for the top spot in the Finals Heat. The second set of eight teams are considered honorable mention and compete in the Consolation Heat. Despite only one relay qualifying for the state meet with a time in the top 16 of the original 32, the team defied the original qualification rankings. The superb combination of Harrison Frost, Noah Hyatt, Aidan Espy, and Joseph Schloss outperformed their previous best times of the year, advancing to day two in all three relays: the 200 Medley Relay, the 200 Freestyle Relay, and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Their success continued into the second day, where they placed 12th in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:43.93, 14th in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:33.21, and 16th in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:24.77. Amidst the excitement of day two, freshman Harrison Frost set a remarkable school record in the 100 Free with a time of 49.36 in the first leg of the relay, just surpassing the previous record set by Jacob Schloss as a senior.
Congratulations to the team on an incredible season. The future certainly looks bright for Westminster Swim!
