The Westminster baseball team claimed the Metro League Championship after finishing conference play with an impressive 8-3 record, sealing the title with a dramatic extra-inning victory over MICDS on Thursday, May 14.
The championship-clinching game was the continuation of a contest originally started on March 31 that had been postponed at the top of the 10th inning. When play resumed, the Wildcats battled through four more innings before finally earning a thrilling 7-6 win in 13 innings to secure the conference crown.
Westminster's conference season featured several dominant performances, including sweeps of Priory and John Burroughs, along with key wins over Lutheran South, Principia, and MICDS.

Several Wildcats turned in standout performances throughout league play. Senior shortstop Drew Messey led the team with 15 hits while batting .375, including four triples and a home run. Senior center fielder AJ Stovall paced the Wildcats with 14 RBIs, while junior Grady Arnold posted an outstanding .606 on-base percentage.
On the mound, Arnold was the Wildcats' workhorse during conference play, finishing with a 4-1 record and a 2.02 ERA. Senior Kam McCole added two conference wins, while sophomore Logan Zenker and freshman Mitch McAlister each recorded a victory.
With the Metro League title secured, Westminster now turns its attention to postseason play. The Wildcats earned the #1 seed and a first-round bye in the Class 4 District 4 Tournament and will host Bayless (first round winner over Principia) on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. at Westminster.
