The Westminster boys golf team delivered a statement performance on Monday, May 7, winning the Class 4 District 2 Championship at the Golf Club of Wentzville. Competing against 15 other schools in the 18-hole event, the Wildcats posted an outstanding team score of 296 (+12) to take first place, well ahead of runner-up Ladue (313).
The win not only secured the team's spot in the Class 4 State Championship, but also ensured that all five Westminster golfers advanced individually, a rare and impressive feat.
Junior Charlie Kruse led the charge with a stellar round of even-par 71, earning 2nd place overall. Seniors Rhoads Hall and Luke Downey were close behind, each carding a +3 (74) to finish in a tie for 4th. Senior Blake Musielak contributed a crucial +6 (77) to tie for 11th and help round out the team score.
Junior Ben Weinstein posted a +12 (83) to place 34th, and while his score didn't factor into the team total, it was enough under MSHSAA rules for him to qualify for state as the fifth member of a qualifying team within 10 strokes of the individual cut.
With the district title in hand and all five golfers qualifying, the Wildcats will now turn their focus to the Class 4 State Tournament, set for May 19-20 at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, MO.
