This week the softball team traveled to the Killian Softball Complex in Springfield, MO for the Class 4 State Final Four.
For their semifinal matchup, the Cats faced the Trailblazers of Father Tolton. The Trailblazers got on the board fast, hitting a two run homer in the top of the first inning. Tolton furthered their lead in the fourth with another home-run, this time adding four runs.
The Wildcats kept battling and eventually got their first runner to cross the plate in the sixth. Ultimately, the Cats were unable to match the Trailblazers score and fell 7-1.
In the third place game, Westminster would get to see a familiar St. Louis opponent, Cor Jesu. The teams split their two match-ups during the regular season with the stage set in the amazing Missouri State softball venue for the season tiebreaker.
The Wildcats quickly built momentum in the game, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. The Chargers countered with their own two runs in the top of the second, evening the score. Over the next three innings the Wildcats added to their lead with a pair of three run innings in the second and fourth, giving the team a comfortable 8-2 lead.
The Wildcats secured the final out of the season in the top of the seventh, claiming the 3rd place trophy in Class 4 with a 10-3 victory over the Chargers.
